Jane Labban
Senior Faculty
Jane Labban was pleased to join the Cornerstone Music Studios team in 2015, having watched the wonderful musical opportunities and development her own children experienced at Cornerstone. As a mother of three grown sons, all of whom started instruments at a young age, she witnessed the incredible life experiences and character development that music afforded them well into their adulthood. She understands the nurturing and fostering a student needs along the ever-changing stages of musical development. Her own family’s musical journey included an eager son, who could not wait for his weekly lesson; an active son, who had a 15 minute attention span; a shy son, who got a stomach ache 10 minutes prior to each lesson. She knows each child’s personality brings a uniquely beautiful gift to the lesson. She dedicates extensive time to create child specific lessons, complementing each student’s individual personality.
Jane is a graduate of Duke University with a degree in Electrical Engineering. She is a lifelong piano student, still actively taking lessons. She started a private piano studio in 2013 and joined Cornerstone Music Studios in 2015. She has completed numerous Pedagogy Courses at the New School of Music and is an active member of the Piano Teachers Forum of Central New Jersey.
In her free time Jane loves to travel, hike and ski. She is currently in the throws of the hysterical process of transferring her old video tapes to digital form- noting the kids couldn’t be cuter, but is left wondering what she and her husband were wearing and who was cutting their hair!
“If children hear fine music from the day of their birth and learn to play it, they develop sensitivity, discipline and endurance. They get a beautiful heart.” - Shinichi Suzuki
“Music does bring people together. It allows us to experience the same emotions. People everywhere are the same in heart and spirit.” – Henry David Thoreau
